programmes
We have recruited 8 companies to our trainee programme. Our admin support is enabling £390,500 (ESF)

We are developing a regional network for Professional Development Advisors
We have identified over 80 people working within the sector who provide professional development planning or information advice and guidance although not necessarily formally as part of their job description.
Working with Peter Beven from the University of Northumbria who is an acknowledged expert in the advisory field, we have talked to many of them about their skills needs in their advisory role and have put together a programme of sessions running throughout 08 that responds to the skills issues they raised. We hope this work will lay the foundations for a network of advisors that supports them in their role and enhances their accessibility to the sector. Development needs of Local Authority Strategic Arts Officers
NCSP was asked by Arts Council North East to investigate the skills and development needs of arts officers. Working with a range of staff within Local Authorities we documented skills requirements at different stages of a career, the barriers experienced by officers in meeting their professional development objectives, and their thoughts about solutions. We are now managing a bursary budget to support the cost of
professional development and providing one to one professional development planning sessions so that
informed choices are made.

Research into Skills for Festivals and Events
A vibrant festival and events sector is an indicator of a healthy creative economy. In 2007, ONE NE funded NCSP to commission this research in support of the festivals and events sector in the region. Prepared by David Taylor Partnerships Limited in association with Gecko Limited, the report of the research was launched at a seminar on March 17th at Live Theatre in Newcastle. North East Creative and Cultural Sector Skills Action Plan
During 2005 NCSP led a consortium comprising the regional bodies of the Arts Council, Museums Libraries and Archives, English Heritage and Culture North East in the development of the first skills action plan for the sector in the region. A mapping exercise was conducted on behalf of the consortium by Bowman Solutions which produced labour market information. A second phase of consultation was conducted involving over 100 employers and freelance workers and a report produced which remains the single overarching view of skills needs across the arts and heritage sectors.
